Ways to Help

The best way to help is with a financial donation. We can get most things we need locally, it is usually cheaper.

We are happy to accept clothes, especially cloth diapers and baby bottles. The best thing is to send small to medium size boxes (50 cm x 50 cm or 20 in x 20 in). They usually get through the postal system without problems. Put the contents in a plastic bag as sometimes the box gets wet. We can use all sizes of children's clothes and shoes. Financial sponsorship of children in the community is available for 26 US$ a month. For 26 US$ per month you can help an orphan go to school and have a future. We give the extended family money to help with food and clothing for the child. We follow the child and his/her school performance. The child gets their own bank account. Every month we deposit money into their account for when they have finished their schooling.

At present, we can not accommodate volunteers.

The children are cared for by Ethiopians who do a great job. The children go to school and if we get babies, they are immediately placed into one of the "families" in Grace Village. They are never lacking in love or attention. Our desire is to let them grow up in peace as Ethiopians. As they grow, they will have to go out into society and live among their fellow Ethiopians. We want to keep the "foreign" input to a minimum.

The Oasis Foundation and Grace Village are not involved with foreign adoptions. We believe that the children are better off in their own culture. Our children are too precious to be taken away from their own country. Our hope is that when they grow up, they will have a tremendous impact in their own country. We try to ensure that the children are settled and see each other as brothers and sisters. They have all gone through the same experiences and those shared experiences bind them together and help them deal with their emotional pain and memories.
